About the speaker
In 1992 Sandy Moore began her career in the aquatics industry at one of the largest ornamental fish wholesalers on the globe, Segrest Farms. She worked in every aspect of the company prior to becoming President in 2015 and has been pivotal in the company’s overall growth. During her tenure, Segrest Inc. has become known for not only its quality, but for its leadership in developing the best management practices that set the standard for the industry and has grown through mergers and acquisitions to be the largest distributor of live fish in the world. In 2024, she accepted the position of President, New Business Development.
In addition to her leadership at Segrest and in the aquatics trade, Moore has served on many boards that impact the wider pet industry. In 2009, she became a board member of PIJAC (Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, now rebranded as Pet Advocacy Network), and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the PIJAC Aquatic Committee, and Co-Chair of the Government Affairs Committee. In that position, she has recruited industry leaders, coordinated conservation efforts, and provided the industry grassroots assistance with developing new strategies along with building support for the Aquatic Defense Fund. For that work she was awarded PIJAC Pet Industry Leader of the Year in 2014. Moore has also served as the Secretary for the Florida Tropical Fish Farmers Association the only active U.S. established organization devoted entirely towards helping the commercial tropical fish farming industry and focuses on the ethical, economic and social aspects of the industry.
Executive Board of Ornamental Fish International, former Vice President, representing the United States This international trade association consists of members from 30 countries that provide information for CITES, Invasive Alien Species, Animal Welfare, and Biosecurity.
Advisory Board Member for Project Piaba. A registered NGO created to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable wild fish collection on the Rio Negro.
Rising Tide Conservation Board of Advisors, Treasurer An organization that is dedicated to developing and promoting aquaculture of marine ornamental fish species through collaborative efforts of researchers, public aquaria hobbyist industry professionals and conservation groups. Moore has provided space for brood stock and has also created a program within Segrest Farms that donates 1% of all tank raised fish sales directly back to Rising Tide.

Moore previously served on the advisory board of the Human-Animal Bond Research Initiative, a non-profit research and education organization that funds and shares research that demonstrates the positive benefits of pet ownership. Moore also previously served on the PIJAC board representing Aquatics and has chaired and co-chaired the Aquatics Committee since 2009.
Honors
In 2013, Moore received the Pet Industry Leader of the Year award from PIJAC. It was given to her for her years of dedication and efforts to recruit global industry leaders and experts on coral issues, and her success in spearheading opposition to a proposed clownfish ban from the Center for Biological Diversity.
In 2017, Moore was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Florida Tropical Fish Farmers Association. This award was a direct recognition for her unwavering efforts in education of fish farming and sustainable collection, as well as her ability to raise awareness of issues faced by the industry.
In 2018, Moore was recognized as a Woman of Influence by Pet Age
In 2024, Moore won the State of Florida Woman of the Year in Agriculture
